Providing coordination and partnership among governmental units, commercial enterprises, and citizen groups
The Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group (LMS WG) serves as the community-wide all-hazards committee at the core of the unified multi-jurisdictional mitigation planning process for Hillsborough County, providing coordination and partnership among governmental units, commercial enterprises (industry partners), and citizen groups.
Duties
- Assessing risks within the county
- Maintaining an updated list of potential mitigation initiatives that will reduce risks associated with hazards
- Supporting outreach initiatives for the Local Mitigation Strategy, the Floodplain Management Plan, the Community Rating System, and disaster assistance grants
Guidance
We developed LMS to reduce or eliminate all forms of losses from natural or man-made disasters. The goal is to establish and maintain an ongoing process that continually assesses potential disasters, develops corresponding mitigation techniques, and incorporates preparedness and response into the consciousness of the entire community.
