After almost 90 years, the historic Hillsborough County school continues to inspire generations through perseverance and innovation

Middleton High School stands as a testament to resilience and has overcome adversity, including two debilitating fires, to remain a pillar of education and innovation in Hillsborough County. Originally founded in 1934 as the first public high school for African American students in Tampa, Middleton's legacy is one of perseverance, community strength, and academic excellence.

In 1971, Middleton High closed due to desegregation only to reopen in 2002. Today, the school is nationally recognized for its focus on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), offering students pathways to success through rigorous academics and industry partnerships.

From its historic roots to its forward-thinking programs, Middleton High School continues to inspire new generations, proving that resilience is not just part of its past, but it's a foundation for Hillsborough County's future.
