Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 26, 2026) - Attorneys interested in seeking an appointment must reside in Florida and be registered voters in the County in which they reside. Attorneys must be members in good standing with The Florida Bar.

Attorney appointees will receive compensation for services with a flat rate of $250.00 for the first three hours of hearing time, $100.00 per hour for hearing time in excess of three hours, with a maximum cap of $500.00 per session of cases. Hearing dockets are typically scheduled once per month and consist of one morning session and one afternoon session. Hearings may be scheduled more or less frequently depending on program needs. Scheduling of appointees from the available pool is anticipated to be on a rotation basis but is ultimately within the discretion of Citizen Boards Support, a division of Consumer Veteran Services, to best support program needs.

Attorneys interested in being considered for appointment must submit: a complete Application/Questionnaire and a Standards of Conduct Form. This can be submitted using the Online Application and Standards of Conduct Form.

All forms must be signed and dated, and all questions must be answered in entirety to be eligible. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Five positions are vacant. Terms are for three years and may be reappointed to a consecutive term by the BOCC.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be member in good standing with The Florida Bar;
  2. May not be current employees of the County or the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office;
  3. Cannot currently hold, or in the three years preceding appointment have held, any employment or contractual relationship with the County or the Sheriff's Office whatsoever, including providing legal representation; and
  4. Must pass a criminal background check.

Applicants must include the following information with the application:

  • Letters of recommendation (optional, not required)

This board is subject to Ordinances 13-19 and 23-22 and Resolutions 23-100, R26 - 041 and R26 - 042 as they may be amended from time to time.
