Information and resources regarding the CDBG Disaster Recovery Program

During the 2023 and 2024 hurricane seasons, Hillsborough County experienced severe weather and devastation to significant portions of the county.

  • Aug. 30, 2023 - Hillsborough County residents suffered damage from Hurricane Idalia, which caused flash flooding to most of the area
  • Aug. 4, 2024 - Hillsborough County saw effects of Hurricane Debby with flooding and high winds
  • Sept. 26, 2024 - Hurricane Helene passed by Hillsborough County and left devastating storm surge in its wake
  • Oct. 9, 2024 - Hurricane Milton made landfall as a strong Category 3 with top wind speeds of over 100 mph and more heavy rains causing significant flooding for several weeks. Many residents were left with flooded homes and cars, damaged roofs from wind or fallen trees, and/or homes that were not livable.

Hillsborough County expects to receive a $709,324,000 allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) to assist with recovery and mitigation efforts related to the disasters from 2023 and 2024. The grant will help local communities and neighborhoods that have the greatest unmet needs or face long term recovery challenges.

The County is in the early planning stages and will seek input from residents, community partners, and local municipalities to develop an Action Plan for the proposed use of funds. Updates will be posted on this website.
