Job Overview

This position serves to manage a section within the Hillsborough County Comprehensive Emergency Management Program.

This position may be responsible for Operations, Planning or a combined Logistics and Finance/Administration Section and will supervise Emergency Management Coordinators working in that section.

Under the leadership of the Division Director, the Section Chief will work to ensure that all preparedness (prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery) activities are accomplished according to all local, state, and federal guidelines.

This position also supports all aspects (and related resources) of Office of Emergency Management (OEM) programs and functions within the assigned section.

This position directly supervises three to four personnel.

This position also ensures that enough County personnel are trained to perform assigned functions in the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during an activation as well as in the field in support of disaster operations.
This position reports to the Division Director of the Hillsborough County Office of Emergency Management, and performs professional administrative, operational, and supervisory duties in planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing the Emergency Management Program pursuant to Florida Statutes, which includes being on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

$95,742 - $124,467

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Emergency Management, Planning, Communications, Emergency Services, Business or Public Administration, or related field; AND
  • Five years of experience in a comprehensive emergency management program, including project management specifically related to local government emergency management operations or a related field, along with budget management experience; two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies; AND
  • Completion of the FEMA Professional Development Series (PDS); AND
  • Completed Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200,700, and 800 courses; AND
  • Completed Incident Command System (ICS) G-300 and G-400; AND
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
