Your input will help form Hillsborough's Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan; Community Meeting July 15

In the months since Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa, and Pinellas and Hernando counties have worked to create Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plans (PDRP) for long-term disaster recovery. Once complete, plans from the four local governments will be combined to create a regional strategy across the Tampa Bay area.

Hillsborough County's Post-Storm Planning

The PDRP might sound similar to topics of recent community meetings held by Hillsborough County. This spring, Hillsborough planners held stormwater assessment meetings to evaluate and gather public input about the cumulative flooding impacts of seasonal rainfall and Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. And in June, County leaders asked for input on storm impacts and held a series of disaster recovery community meetings to ask residents how more than $700 million in federal grant funds should be spent to help the community recover from four hurricanes in the last two years.

The PDRP is slightly different. Here's how:

What is a PDRP?

Hillsborough's PDRP will create the groundwork for a more resilient community when disaster strikes. The plan will focus on implementing strategies to redevelop infrastructure, businesses, and communities, ultimately reducing future risk and supporting economic growth.

PDRP Objectives

  • Ensure the county returns to normalcy as quickly as possible following disasters
  • Improve housing recovery and business continuity after disasters
  • Strengthen infrastructure resilience and sustainability
  • Ensure a coordinated, well-funded redevelopment strategy
  • Protect historic, cultural, and environmental resources
