Small Business Administration announces low-cost loans for those impacted by June 25 storms and tornadoes

On June 25, 2025, Hillsborough County faced the first bout of severe weather for the 2025 hurricane season. Heavy rainfall, flooding in low-lying areas, strong wind, hail, and tornado threats occurred in various parts of the county. Wind-related damage and debris were reported.

Although Hillsborough's neighbors in Pinellas received the brunt of the impacts, the Small Business Administration (SBA) issued a disaster declaration at the request of the governor. The declaration covers Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Pasco counties. Residents, small businesses, and private nonprofits are eligible to apply for both SBA physical damage loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs).

How it works

Homeowners and renters may borrow up to $100,000 to repair personal property (furniture, cars, appliances, clothing), and homeowners can borrow up to $500,000 to repair or replace a primary residence.

Small businesses and private nonprofits may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, inventory, equipment, and other business assets. These organizations may also apply for EIDL loans to cover storm-related financial losses to payroll, accounts payable, fixed expenses, etc.

Mitigation loans

Applying for a SBA physical damage loan? You may be eligible for up to a 20% loan increase for mitigation purposes. Projects could include reinforcing your structure to protect against wind damage, installing a safe room or storm shelter, or upgrading to wind-rated garage doors.

You do not have to wait for an insurance settlement before applying to the SBA.
