Arts Council of Hillsborough County invites residents to enjoy local art at County Center rotating installation

New artwork is now on display at Hillsborough County Center as part of the "Rising Voices: Creative Works by Hillsborough County Youth" rotating art exhibit. The fifth installation, "Through Their Lens: A Journey of Self Exploration," features artwork created by local students exploring subjects of well-being, personal journeys, moments of discovery, growth and self-reflection, photographic art and well-being, and the impacts of travel and exploration on mental health.

Over 220 middle and high school students from across Hillsborough, Manatee, and Pinellas Counties submitted entries in the youth photography contest, with the winning photographs featured on display.

A closer look at the installation

The "Through Their Lens: A Journey of Self Exploration" photography contest was created three years ago in memory of Jacob Ari Kamis, a high school student who tragically passed away in 2022. While in middle school, Jacob discovered a passion for photography and was eventually appointed the official photographer of the Aston Martin Owners Club of Florida, a role where he combined his passion for the art with his interest in automobiles.

Jacob's memory lives on through the contest, and some of his own work is on display next to this year's winning artwork, which will be on display in the lobby at Frederick B. Karl County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa, FL 33602, for the public to view during regular business hours now through Nov. 15.

Students interested in participating in the fourth annual contest can learn more and apply at the contest website.
