The 2.35-acre cemetery has historically been referred to as the Poor Farm, Potter’s Field, and the County Farm. It was acquired by Hillsborough County on July 12, 1906, in accordance with a directive from the 1905 Florida Constitution which mandated the establishment of facilities for the health and ongoing care of society's indigent populations. The original 128-acre site housed various facilities, including a county farm, hospital, tuberculosis sanatorium, and the cemetery.
In October 2015, a historical marker detailing the historical significance of the place was unveiled and dedicated on the site by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners and the Hillsborough County Historical Advisory Board.
The site is maintained by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation Department.

This is the memorial site of Jeffery Bush, a Hillsborough County resident consumed in the February 28, 2013 opening of a sinkhole in Seffner, FL. Three months following this unfortunate and catastrophic event, his residence, along with two neighboring homes of the Jaudon family and Wicker family, were demolished.
The once private .69-acre plot of land transitioned to county ownership in 2014 is now double-fenced with a secure gate.
The site is maintained by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation Department.
Hackney Riverview Cemetery

About
This 3.35 acres public cemetery has approximately 1,398 graves of Civil War veterans and members of the Woodsmen of the World. The cemetery is named in memory of Dr. James Sarvent Hackney, originally from North Carolina, who became one of the Pinellas Peninsula's first settlers in 1873. Upon his arrival, Dr. Hackney purchased 600 acres of what is now downtown St. Pete. He later sold his land and moved to Tampa Bay.
In 1995, JB Gordon and Florence Sikes founded the Hackney Riverview Cemetery Trust, dedicated to restoring and preserving the burial ground. The American Legion Post 148 of Riverview continues her legacy with monthly maintenance activities.
The Cemetery is maintained by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation Department, through a contract with the neighboring cemetery and funeral home.
John Carney Gravesite
3403 Stearns Road, Valrico, FL
About
Private John Carney was a soldier and farmer in the 3rd Seminole War. He served as a Private in Captain Lesley's Company of the Florida Mounted Volunteer Militia. In recognition of his military service, Carney was granted 160 acres of land under the September 28, 1850, Donation Land Claim Act, which awarded bounty land to deserving officers and soldiers. He farmed on his land to feed his fellow soldiers. His date of death was Apri1 17th, 1856 during the 3rd Seminole War (1855 – 1858).

Lewis Family Gravesite
James Pierce Lewis (1827 – 1873) was a resident of this homestead according to the 1940 – 1941 WPA Veterans Grave Registration. The exact location of this gravesite is not known but historical records indicate the homestead to be south of Fishhawk Boulevard in Lithia, Fl located on lands under the control of the County’s Conservation & Environmental Lands Management Department.
Thonotosassa Cemetery

Established in 1885, the cemetery spans 1.19 acres with 369 graves recorded.
In 1906, the land was donated by General William Pitt Hazen, Elisapti Dorchester, and Captain Owen W. Strait to Hillsborough County. General W. P. Hazen started working as a foundry helper at the age of 9, then a molder until he became an employer in the iron industry. Captain Owen Strait was a railroad conductor for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, which transported soldiers to Port Tampa during the Spanish-American War. Captain Strait was the founder and first President of the Thonotosassa Board of Trade in 1913.

Wynn Memorial Park
2918 Forest Circle, Seffner, FL
About
Albert Wesley Wynns, born in Tennessee, had a career in law before transitioning to farming and merchandising. In 1856, he won the election to the Tennessee State Legislature, but illness forced his resignation. Four years later, Wynns relocated to Florida with his family, where he purchased 40 acres of land. He passed away within the same year.
