What are Public Records?
Public records encompass all materials made or received by an agency in connection with official business.
Chapter 119, Florida Statutes, commonly known as Florida's "Public Records Law," mandates that government records are public records accessible to anyone.
Making a Request
For assistance with marriage records, divorce records, court case records, probate and estate records, and property records (loans, deeds, liens), contact the Hillsborough County Clerk of the Court.
Individuals can request Hillsborough County public records involving official County business, County employees, and/or services online at HCFL.gov/AtYourService. Residents without digital access are encouraged to call Hillsborough County’s main information line, (813) 272-5900, or mail the request to the address below.

Acknowledgement of Request and Next Steps
Once a public records request is received, it will be acknowledged by staff and reviewed to determine if records exist and, if so, the estimated time and potential costs involved in responding to the request will be provided.
Charges/Fee Schedule/Payments
- Depending on the size, scope, and amount of personnel time involved in the request, there may be a fee for some records.
- Before beginning any work on fulfilling the request, the requestor will be provided with an estimate based on the following: If the research takes 30 minutes or less, it will be provided free of cost. However, if it takes longer than 30 minutes, you will be charged the hourly wage of the lowest-paid person who can complete the work.
- The first 10 pages of paper copies are free. If more than 10 pages are required, additional pages are charged $0.15 each.
- CDs/DVDs will be charged at the rate of $1 or $2 each.
- If the total cost of the request is $49 or less, payment can be made when picking up the records by check or cash; $49 and above will require a credit card or check payment be received in advance before any work is conducted.
- Additionally, some requests may generate additional vendor costs.
