The team features adults with permanent physical disabilities who have a genuine love for the game of basketball

The Tampa Bay Strong Dogs Wheelchair Basketball Team has been a competitive part of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) for more than 20 years.

The Tampa Bay Strong Dogs players have a passion for staying involved in adaptive sports and fitness opportunities.

The season runs from November through March, with the team traveling and competing in regional and national tournaments.

Player requirements

To be eligible to be on the team, players:

  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • Must have a permanent physical disability which consistently reduces the function of the lower limbs to a degree where they cannot run, pivot or jump at the speed and with the control safety, stability and endurance required to play running basketball as an able-bodied player
  • Must have an elite performance sport wheelchair
  • Must be able to compete in all National Wheelchair Basketball Association 2022 competitions
