Safe and secure data disposal event

ShredFest is a free, drive-thru event that encourages residents to protect their personal information by securely destroying confidential paper documents and responsibly recycling eligible electronic devices that may still contain sensitive data.

IMPORTANT: All cords, batteries, and trash must be removed from paper shredding prior to submission. Paper products must be separated from electronic devices.

Failure to comply may result in loss of shredding service.

What can you bring to shred?

On-site document shredding will be limited to three copy-paper-sized boxes or kitchen-sized trash bags of sensitive paper documents per vehicle. (White or clear bags are preferred over black bags.)

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers guidelines on how long to keep tax records. Below are items to consider shredding during ShredFest:

  • Old bank documents
  • Tax records older than seven years
  • Junk mail containing personal data (name, address, etc.)
  • Unnecessary bills and receipts
  • Old travel documents
  • Expired home/care insurance policies
  • Pay stubs older than four years
  • Sticky notes or documents containing passwords
  • Unnecessary paper copies and duplicates

What is e-shredding?

ShredFest includes free electronic “e-shredding” to help thwart cyber identity theft. Known as IT asset disposition (ITAD), the process of ITAD is the secure and environmentally sustainable disposal of unwanted devices containing data. Residents can drop off their old cell phones, personal computers, laptops, tablets, and hard drives to be securely destroyed by an industry-approved and certified recycler.
