Find out where to get sandbags during active sandbag operations

Sandbag locations

There currently are no active sandbag operations.

How to use sandbags

  • Place a plastic tarp/waterproof barrier in front of the flood-prone door
  • Tape the tarp to the doorframe
  • Arrange the first row of sandbags horizontally across the entire doorway
  • Flatten the sandbags as you put them in place
  • Stack the next row of sandbags on top of the first in a staggered pattern as necessary
Sandbags must be properly filled and set up to protect your house from water damage.

How to store sandbags

  • Stack in a high, dry place to keep them for future storms. Properly stored sandbags should last a year or more.

What to do with your sandbags after a storm

  • Sandbags that encountered flood waters
    • Spread sand in yard to fill holes and low-lying areas, or use in gardens
    • Trash the bag, do NOT recycle the bag
    • Do NOT dump sand in trash cart
    • Or, bring to a Community Collection Center for disposal (HCFL.gov/CCC)
  • Sandbags that did not encounter flood waters
    • Reuse sandbags for next storm season
    • Store properly
