Accepted items, limits, and locations for where to discard household paint and electronics for Hillsborough County residents

Electronics

Accepted Items

  • Computers (laptops, desktops, tablets)
  • Computer components (monitors, keyboards, routers, mice)
  • Computer backup power supplies
  • Telephones/cellphones
  • Televisions
  • Printers, fax machines
  • Radios, stereo components, VCR/DVD players

Limits

  • Five (5) intact household electronic items are accepted per household each month at Community Collection Centers (CCC)
  • Limit does not include monitors, keyboards, routers, mice.

Restrictions

  • Electronics must not be stripped or missing housing because sharp edges can cause injuries to workers
  • Do not remove batteries from items like cell phones or tablets

Data Security

  • The county's electronics recycling contract requires data to be securely removed and destroyed. If you wish to take extra precaution, consider:
    • Resetting your device to factory settings
    • Removing the SIM card
    • Removing the hard drive


Paint

Accepted Items

  • Paint (latex and oil-based paint)
  • Stain
  • Varnish

Restrictions

  • Container must be sealed and not leaking

CCC and HHW locations to discard items

Hillsborough County residents can take paint and electronics, with the exception of the items listed as not accepted, to CCC's during normal operating times. Paint is also accepted at HHW events. Electronics are not accepted at HHW events.

Commercial waste is not accepted at Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events or Community Collection Center

Items not accepted

  • Commercial waste is not accepted at CCCs and HHW collection events. Commercial waste includes waste generated by businesses, county departments, hobbyists, and non-profit organizations. Download a list of disposal contractors that accept hazardous waste, used oil, electronics and fluorescent lamps for disposal by commercial facilities.
  • Spray aerosol cans be taken to a HHW collection for disposal

What to bring

  • State-issued photo ID with a Hillsborough County residential address
  • If you have materials other than household hazardous chemicals or electronics, automotive or non-alkaline batteries, or paint, a printed or digital copy of your annual Hillsborough County Property Tax Bill showing your current solid waste assessment may be needed
