Information on how to order additional or replacement gray garbage and blue recycling roll carts (commonly called garbage and recycling cans)

In addition to paying for a roll cart, you can also request and pay to swap to a larger or smaller cart (35, 65, or 95-gallon).

Garbage and recycling roll cart fees

The following fees are for Hillsborough County Solid Waste customers who need additional or replacement carts.

Additional cart fee - $65

This fee applies to:

  • Existing homes without roll carts
    • You are required to have a County issued gray garbage roll cart
  • Replacement carts
    • Carts that are damaged beyond repair such as carts with holes, cracks, or broken lids
  • Additional roll cart request
    • You may only request one additional garbage or recycling roll cart

Cart size swap fee - $20

  • You can exchange an existing cart for a different size (35, 65, or 95-gallon)
  • Your existing cart must be usable and undamaged
  • If the vendor determines the cart is unusable, they won't complete the exchange, and you will need to do a replacement cart order instead

Failed service swap fee - $20

  • If your roll cart scheduled for swap isn't left curbside on the day of service and the technician can't complete the exchange, they will leave a notice letting you know an attempt was made
  • An additional $20 swap fee will apply when they return

Note: All the fees above are only for Hillsborough County Solid Waste customers. If you live in the city limits for Tampa, Temple Terrace or Plant City, you will need to contact them for information on cart fees.

Broken wheels?

If the wheels on one of your County-provided gray or blue roll carts are damaged and it is repairable, we will repair it at no charge. Please keep the broken roll cart curbside until the technician can complete the wheel or axle repair.

If the cart is determined to be non-repairable when the technician arrives, a replacement roll cart must be purchased. Visit the Report a Broken Wheel or Axle on your Garbage or Recycling Cart page for more information and links to report the damage.

Things to consider

  • New construction home: Residents who have moved into a newly constructed home without carts CANNOT request carts using the online application. Please call (813) 272-5680 to speak with a solid waste customer service representative to request your initial carts.
  • Existing home without roll carts: Residents are required to purchase at least one gray garbage roll cart
  • Roll cart delivery orders will be completed within three business days of the initial date of purchase
  • Roll cart takeback: We do not retrieve roll carts for removal unless they are being exchanged due to a replacement or cart size swap request. If your cart does not meet these criteria, you may:
    • Keep the old cart
    • Repurpose the cart for personal use (e.g., storage or yard tools)
    • Drop it off at your nearest Community Collection Center (this will not count against your disposal points)
